Dr Holowaty is a graduate of the University of Toronto Medicine Program and completed both her Doctoral thesis in Molecular Genetics as well as her family medicine residency at the University of Toronto.
She has a Masters degree in the area of Palliative Care from the University of Maryland.
She maintains her Diplomate status from the Canadian Academy of Pain Management. She has completed the Integrated Structural Acupuncture course for Physicians from the University of New England. She is also currently training in Mindfulness Based Chronic Pain Management with NeuroNova Centre and becoming a certified yoga instructor with Yoga Therapy Studio in order to provide more mind-body options for treatment of chronic pain.
Dr Holowaty is the current Chair of the Member Interest Group in Addiction Medicine at the College of Family Physicians of Canada and co-author of the recent CFPC publication for family physicians on substance use in primary care - https://www.cfpc.ca/en/education-professional-development/practice-tools-guidelines/practical-approach-to-substance-use-disorders
